Congratulations to Nicholas Sangirardi on his assignment to Squad 288.

5/3/12
Squad 288 recieved a ticket at 2345hrs reporting a person pinned in the shaft.  The location was Terrace On the Park 52-11 111 St Corona QNS Air bags were used to move the car away from the shaft allowing the workers legs to be freed.  The elevator clamps were used securing the elevator from going up and down. The worker had both legs pinned between elevator car & wall in a blind shaft, he was removed in serious but stable condition.  http://www.nydailynews.com/new-york/quee....ticle-1.1072538

Squad 288 recieved a ticket for a trapped male at the intersection of 66th Street and Grand Avenue. Upon reaching the scene, crews found a male was hit by a bus and was pinned under the bus mid span. Squad 288 removed the male using the pnuematic bottle jack.

In the early afternoon Squad 288 recieved a phone alarm reporting a fire in an auto body shop. Up 288's arrival there was a smoke condition visible from the paint booth. Upon investigation fire was found in the ventilation duct work. The fire was quiclcly knocked down and the 46 used All Hands.

Squad 288 recived a ticket for a MVA at the intersection of RUst and Maspeth Ave. Upon arrival a confirmed pin was given and the patient of one vehicle was extricated.

At approximately 2:45 pm Ladder 143 transmitted a 10-75 for a fire in a large pd. Squad 270 was the first due engine and strerched a line where they had fire in the attic. Upon the transmittion of the 10-75 Squad 288 recieved a ticket to fill the 10-75 upon our arrival the 13th division put us to work to check the basement for the utilities and extension. After this was done, the squad went to the second floor and attic. There were many voids and chases in this house that required extensive overhaul. The fire was brought under control in 36 mins.

2/6/12

Squad 288 received a phone alarm on the day tour for a person that fell in a cemetery. As Squad 288 arrived first on scene, members noticed a man in a hole on top a coffin vault with a broken ankle. The sides of the hole were questionable and members of 288 began to place plywood while the two entry FF's began to access and package the pt.  The man was packaged to a backboard and stokes basket in the hole the hauled up the hole with a main line attached to a very large head stone.  Great job by all member's working the day tour in Squad 288 and who operated at this box.

Squad 288 responded and operated at a fire in the Kew Garden Hills section of Queens. Engine 315 transmitted a 10-75 for fire in the basement with extension to the first floor of a 30X50 peaked roof private dwelling. The 52 battalion used all hands on a arrival. 

1/28/12

Squad 288 responded to a report of a fire in a multiple dwelling on Calamus Ave at approximately 12:30pm. We responded as the second due engine. Prior to our arrival Engine 287 gave a 10-75 for fire on the first floor of a 4 stry MD. Squad 288 assisted with the stretching of the first line. The fire went under control shortly after the All-Hands was transmitted.

Squad 288 responded to the Blissville section of the Boro, for fire in a warehouse. Ladder 128 gave a 10-75 for a 1 stry warehouse 100X75. Searches were conducted and the fire was placed under control after 30 mins of operations.

1/23/12 

In the early morning Squad 288 received a box reporting a fire in a 2 story private dwelling.  Upon Squads arrival at 57th Drive and 59th Street a 10-75 was transmitted for fire on the first floor. The SQCC was blocked out of a hydrant and 10-70 (water relay) was transmitted. As occupants were fleeing the residence they stated that there grandfather was upstairs.  Upon gathering this information the Capt. dispatched the door FF Jason Vitulli to the second floor.  Jason searched the floor above which was full of clutter with out the protection of a hoseline. During his search of the second floor he found the missing grandfather and began dragging the semi conscious occupant down the stair shielding him with his body. At this time Jason was met at the front door by the hoseline and removed the occupant to the street where care was handed off and regained his position on the hoseline.

This fire went to an all hands with and extra engine and truck. Heavy fire vented out the 2 side of the building with fire exposing to the exposure. FF Burik had the Nozzle. All units did a great job. Outstanding Job FF Jason Vitulli!!!!

1/16/2012

Squad 288 received a ticket on phone calls for Queens Box# 9429 the flushing section of the borough. Upon Engine 315's arrival they transmitted a 10-75 followed by Ladder 125's quick transmitting of a second alarm. Squad 288 operated in the exposure 2  top floor of the attached garden apartment. Squad 288 responded to two fires over night both in the corona section of queens.

12/22011

Squad 288 heading back from an gas leak run gave a verbal for a 10-75 three houses away from out quarters. Members of Squad 288 where met with fire on the first floor. The fire was venting out the 4 side and began exposing Exposure 4.  Three lines were stretched and two went into operation and fire was contained to the original house.

Squad 288 responded to the middle village section of queens as the third due engine, prior to out arrival engine 319 transmitted a 10-75 squad 288 stretched a second 1" 3/4 and stood fast.

The Officers and Members of Squad Co. 288 would like to express our condolences to the Mt. Vernon Fire Department for the loss of FF Kevin Townes which occurred while operating at a house fire. Also the Worcester Fire Department for the loss of FF Jon Davies of Rescue Co. 1 who died in a collapse of a apartment building. Three alarms were needed to extinguish the fire and removal of trapped firefighters.

Squad 288 Responded to a 10-75 in the Corona Section of Queens the 46 used all hands with an additional engine and truck. Fire was located in a 1 story taxpayer at  99-13 Roosevelt Ave.
